The Club at Crossings Community Center
Making a difference in the community
"We keep the students off the streets, in a safe and Christ-centered environment, with adults who truly care about them!" The time after school until parents arrive home is considered a "danger zone" for getting into trouble.
What is The Club?
Strong themes surround and encompass The Club at Crossings—an after-school program for John Marshall students in grades six, seven and eight, according to Pam Millington, Pastor of Missions & Outreach Ministry.
During their time at The Club (Thursday afternoons from 2:55-6 p.m. at Crossings Community Center—2208 W. Hefner Road), students receive a homemade snack, followed by a Bible lesson, life-skills coaching, structured free time and then a homemade dinner.
As Millington explained, the life-skills lessons may include sexual abstinence, manners, gang prevention, money management or goal setting. Classes are led by volunteers from Crossings.
Now in its third year, The Club recently sent a questionnaire to students and parents. Students were asked this: One thing I do better now than I did at the first of the year? Answers included:
"Properly take care of a lady."
"Don’t get as mad at people."
"Respect people."
"Pray."
Parents were asked "Have you noticed any change in your child since their participation in The Club?" Answers included:
"His grades have changed."
"Her social skills have improved."
Consider joining us on the mission field this week—change the life of a student.

How can you get involved?
Donations
and volunteers are always needed. An ongoing need is for Tutors for middle school students (day/time to fit your schedule).

What are they saying about The Club?
Here’s what one child said about the math tutoring program at The Club:
“He (the tutor) was someone to talk to when nobody else was there. He’s smart and helped me on some of the most important things I should know when I’m grown up and on my own. He makes problems easier by breaking them down for me if I don’t understand.”
And parental praise isn’t far behind!
“The Club has helped my daughter’s social skills, and her attitude has improved, as well.”
“My son is more social, and The Club is helping him to make new friends.”
